School Holiday Package 2008

Don't tell the kids that you are taking them to an old school for part of their holidays or they won't come. But then again, if they see how the children used to ride to school on horseback, sit in a huge old draughty classroom and then go outside in the blinding rain to use the bathroom, they might not whinge as much. Thornton Country Retreat B&B still boasts the original classroom, play shed, and outdoor toilets; one for the boys and one for the girls. The old Jacaranda Tree still stands where under the shade of this enormous tree, the children used to tie their horses up for the day before riding them back over the range home. Come and see where the children used to jump off the big rock into the water hole in Laidley Creek, which forms part of our property. Try a walk right along the creek and see if you can find water dragons, frogs, tadpoles or wallabies. Sometimes you can even see Platypus but you have to make a special trip for them at dusk as they are very shy and easily spooked. There is plenty of room to run around and you can take Harry for a walk along the creek. Why not make bark boats and see how far they can sail? Harry, Amy and our Alpacas, Will and Goggles are fed in the morning and you can help. Amy is fed again about 3.30pm and you can give her a brush before putting her coat on for the night. There is always something to do and things to see. A drive around the valley takes about 4 hours and you will see all sorts of animals from cows, horses, camels, pigs, chickens, ducks, and much more.
